Fastening with screws
Because PVC sheets change length when they are used outdoors, they require a mounting system that permits them to expand and contract when they are exposed to large temperature changes. One method of mounting is to fix the sheets with screws.
Screws are inserted through holes or elongated slots drilled into the sheets. These holes or slots must allow sufficient play between the screw shaft and the side of the hole to accommodate expansion and contraction. We recommend half-round or round screws according to DIN 96.
Screws with a tapered neck should not be use because they might sink into the hole and limit movement of the sheet. The screws should be tightened so the sheet has sufficient play within all holes or slots. Large washers should be used for covering the holes or slots. They prevent the screw head from sinking into the hole. Slots should be drilled when the sheet to be mounted is longer than 1.5 m. Inside buildings, where temperature fluctuations are small, holes for mounting PVC sheets can be only 1 – 2 mm larger than the screw shaft diameter.
