Fabrication: Die-Cutting Troubleshooting
Cracking / Trouble-Shooting
A few root causes for paper cracking
- Paper is too dry
- Die is insufficiently rubbered
- Rubber is not spaced properly
- Spacing between parts is not adequate
Dry Paper
KomaFoam is moisturized in-line after lamination
- Unique step in the foamboard industry
Still possible for the board to dry in a converting environment
- Especially true in very cold climates
To minimize climate problems
- Keep KomaFoam wrapped until it is time to die cut if possible.
- Do not die cut directly under / in the path of furnace ducts, etc. (heated air is dried air)

Provide humidification if feasible
- Common in the paper industry
Ideal to die cut KomaFoam within 24 hours after laminating
- Moisture from adhesive aids the cutting process
Avoid over-curing screen-prints in convection or UV Curing tunnels
- Especially important in multi-pass prints

Incorrect Spacing

Part Spacing too Tight
